A key prosecution witness in the YSL RICO trial claims he lied to Young Thug when he previously told police about the rapper's alleged involvement in crimes.
Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland testifies that he lied to Young Thug
On Monday (August 12), the YSL RICO trial resumed after a nearly two-month hiatus with a new judge, Page Reese Whitaker, now presiding over the case. The trial continued with the testimony of controversial key prosecution witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland, who decided to testify after notifying the Court that he would take the stand depending on his mood.
During the trial, Copeland became hostile while being questioned by the prosecution about allegations he made to police about crimes the Atlanta rapper committed in 2015.
“I don't remember any of that,” Copeland replied when asked to address his earlier claims. “I just know that every time the police chased me and tried to catch me, they kept bringing [Young Thug’s] name and I knew they had me with what I had. So, I was like “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever you want me to say, I'll say it.”
“That's why they kept going after me because they felt like they could sue him or whatever they're trying to do,” a distraught Copeland continued. “So they knew that, 'OK, we're going to get Woody today, he's going to have something to say about Thug.' It's wrong to do this, leave me alone.”
At one point during the deposition, Copeland was considered a hostile witness.
On August 9, Judge Whitaker instructed the jury to disregard Copeland's earlier testimony as he did not have proper legal representation.

Lil Woody's testimony continues
The testimony of Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland has been the focus of the trial in recent weeks. Back on June 7, he was sentenced to spend a weekend in jail after refusing to testify. After a meeting with prosecutors and the judge, Copeland decided to continue his testimony, but was at odds with prosecutors every step of the way. On June 12, he fired his own lawyer.
Copeland was supposed to be the prosecution's key witness, as he told police on multiple occasions about alleged crimes involving Young Thug. In 2021, he was questioned after being arrested for a gun and told police about an alleged assassination plot involving Thug.
