Vampire Weekend have shared another new song from their fifth studio album, Only God was above us. The new song, “Mary Boone,” follows “Capricorn,” “Gen-X Cops” and “Classical.” Watch the video for the new track below, directed by Andrew Nisinson and starring New York rapper Despot.
“Mary Boone” is named after the New York gallerist who was highly influential in the 1980s. Boone closed her two galleries in 2019 in the face of a federal prison sentence for tax fraud-related offenses. He has now served his 30 month sentence and is out of prison.
Ezra Koenig wrote “Mary Boone” and co-produced the song with Ariel Rechtshaid. The track features a sample of Soul II Soul's 1989 single “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me).” Additionally, “Mary Boone” features a chorus of Eliza Bagg, Jodie Landau, Luc Kleiner and Kathryn Shuman.
Along with sharing 'Mary Boone', Vampire Weekend have announced European and UK tour dates in support of their new album. Check out the band's upcoming schedule below.
Only God was above us 2019 follows Father of the Bride. The new album will be released on April 5 via Columbia.
