The White Stripes Sue Former President Donald J. Trump Over 2003 Unauthorized Use Elephant song “Seven Nation Army” in a campaign video released last month by Margo Martin, Trump's deputy communications director. Both Meg and Jack White are named as co-plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which lists six counts of copyright infringement.
The lawsuit says Trump and his campaign “chose to ignore and fail to respond to Plaintiffs' preliminary efforts to resolve the issues at issue in this lawsuit” and instead “indiscriminately violated Plaintiffs' legal rights.” It also states that the White Stripes “strongly oppose the policies adopted and actions taken by the defendant Trump while he was President and those he has proposed for his second term.”
The lawsuit, filed today in New York federal court, makes good on Jack White's promise to take legal action against Trump and his campaign. In an Instagram post today, he wrote: “This machine is suing the fascists.” Pitchfork has reached out to representatives and the White Stripes' attorney, Robert A. Jacobs, for additional comment.
