Last Dinner Party enters the UK chart as Prelude to Ecstasy (via Island) blasts to No. 1.
The ultimate midweek leader, Prelude to Ecstasy counts 32,800 chart units in first week, official chart company reports.
This is the biggest opening week for a debut album by a band since 2015, when electronic pop series Years & Years drew 55,000 on their debut, Society.
Also, according to OCC, Last Dinner Party's first-week result includes more than 14,000 vinyl copies, for the best-selling debut album by a group on vinyl of the century and the best-selling week for a vinyl album by the Oasis The Masterplan The remaster was released last November.
Based in London, the indie-rock quintet (Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci) have some serious hype behind them.
The band won this year's BRITs Rising Star Award and the BBC Sound Of 2024 poll, a brace that ensures Last Dinner Party's status as the next big thing in music.
Prelude to Ecstasy features “Nothing Matters”, their breakthrough debut single which entered the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Singles Chart.
Also new to the Official UK Albums Chart, published on Friday, February 9, is Jamie Webster's 10 For the people (Modern Sky), at No. 2. With this effort, the Liverpool, England singer-songwriter boasts a new career, surpassing 2022 Momentswhich peaked at No. 3.
Glasgow, Scotland singer-songwriter Dylan John Thomas opens with self-titled debut album (via Ignition), new at No.21, while Britpop psychedelic rocker Kula Shaker takes a fourth UK top 40 with their last. LP Natural Magic (Strange Folk), new at No. 22.
Finally, Taylor Swift fever is spreading in the UK chart after its announcement Department of Tormented Poets, her upcoming 11th studio album. Several of Swift's recordings rise to the tally, including 1989 (Taylor Edition) (8-5) Midnight (rise 15-6), Folklore (rise 18-10), Lover (rise 17-13), reputation (rise 20-14) and Forever (up 51-40), all through EMI. Announced during the 2024 Grammys, Department of Tormented Poets will be released on April 19.
