After two weeks in solitary confinement, 6ix9ine will spend another 45 days in federal prison for probation violations, the Associated Press reports and confirms a document seen by Pitchfork. The rapper pleaded guilty to five violations, including unauthorized travel, failure to comply with drug tests and possession of methamphetamine, the document shows.
Judge Paul A. Engelmayer suggested 6ix9ine believed he was above the law, “maybe because you're a famous and rich rapper,” he said. “But the same rules apply to you.” After the jail term, he will serve a month of house arrest and another month of curfew as part of a one-year extension of his probation, which was set to expire in six months. Before the sentencing, 6ix9ine told the court, “I'm very sorry. I do not minimize my actions. I take full responsibility. I let myself down. I let my family down. Give me a chance to clean things up.”
6ix9ine's ongoing ordeal stems from his compassionate release in April 2020 as COVID-19 spread in prisons due to his asthma. A potential decades-long sentence had already been drastically reduced after he cooperated with law enforcement and testified in court against alleged gang members he was associated with.
