Taylor Swift fans know they're in for a good time when the Eras Tour mastermind says from the stage, “I'm going to do one that I've never played live before.” Those were the words from Swift's red lips on Friday night (July 5) in Amsterdam, where she debuted “imgonnagetyouback” live during her acoustic set at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
“imgonnagetyouback”, the sexy one Anthology track about seducing an old flame (found on his 31-song version Department of Tormented Poets) begins with Swift directing, “Purple short skirt, the one that fits me like skin.” He soon asserts, “I'll tell you one thing, my love/ I can say when someone still wants me, come clean.”
“Either I'll be your wife or/ I'll break your bike, I haven't decided yet/ But I'll take you back,” sings the “imgonnagetyouback” chorus. “Either I'll curse you out or/ I'll take you back to my house, I haven't decided yet/ But I'll take you back.”
“I hear the whispers in your eyes/ I'll make you think twice/ You'll find out you were never mine/ You're mine,” Swift sang on stage in Amsterdam, acoustic guitar in hand.
In the surprise song segment of Swift's Friday night show, when the hitmaker played “Imgonnagetyouback” live for the first time, she made the song even more spicy by linking it to Reputation slow jam “Dress”.
“Say my name and everything stops/ I don't want you as a best friend/ I only bought this dress for you to take off/ Take it off, ah, ah, ah,” she sang on the flirty mashup, making her way from “Dress ” back to the “imgonnagetyouback” bridge: “I can feel it coming, humming in the way you move/ Hit the reset button, we're becoming something new/ Say you got somebody, I'll say I got somebody/ Even if they're in handcuffs, I'm leaving here with you.”
After the guitar, Swift followed with a love story on the piano.
She sang the delicate 'You Are in Love', a sumptuous track from 1989 era, woven into the dreamy 'Cowboy Like Me', by Forever.
“You can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it with the lights off/ You're in love, true love,” reflected Swift on “You're in Love,” before singing about falling. for “a cowboy like me.”
“Now you hang from my lips, like the gardens of Babylon/ With your boots under my bed, forever is the sweetest deception,” he mused. “You had a few tricks up your sleeve/ It takes one to learn one.”
Tying the two moments together, he sang, “But you can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it with the lights off/ You're a cowboy like me and you've been in love.”
The pop icon, whose Department of Tormented Poets The album remains steady at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, she has now debuted most of the tracks from her latest collection live on tour. Which songs from the set haven't made it to the stage yet? “So Long, London”, “Florida!!!” feat. Florence + The Machine, 'Cassandra' and 'Robin'.
