Welcome to the acoustic section: Taylor Swift took ages to play an unexpected mashup of “Getaway Car,” “August” and “The Other Side of the Door” in Melbourne, Australia on February 17th.
Introducing the acoustic leg of her Eras Tour at the second of three dates in the city, Swift – who on each tour date performs two tracks not often heard during the show – told the Melbourne Cricket Ground crowd that he wanted to pick a song “that they really want to hear and I think I might have succeeded.”
“You've got to let me know,” he teased the Melbourne audience. “I really want you to be happy because you make me really happy.”
Luckily for them, Swift gave her fans a three-song guitar mashup that only counted as one of the songs during her acoustic set.
About three minutes into his performance Reputation “Getaway Car” stands out, Swift chimed in Folklore“August,” which sings, “I can see us lost in memory/ August slipped away in a moment in time/ Because he was never mine/ And I can see us wrapped in sheets/ August slipped away like a bottle of wine/ Because you were never mine
Swift closed the mashup with the outro of “The Other Side of the Door,” which originally appeared on the platinum version of Fearless in 2008 and re-recorded for 2021 Fearless (Taylor version).
“With your face and beautiful eyes/ And the talk of little white lies/ And the faded image of a beautiful night/ You carry me from your car to the stairs/ And I burst into tears, was this fuss worth it? / After everything and this little black dress / After everything, I gotta admit I need you,” she sang to loud cheers.
The Midnight The star then took to the piano to perform “This Is Me Trying,” from Folklore, as the second surprise song of the set. He had only played 'Getaway Car' and 'This Is Me Trying' once before so far on this tour.
