Magic is officially at Disney Studios as the entertainment company announced its decision to move forward with Selena Gomez and David Henrie. Wizards of Waverly Place restart proposal two months after the initial pilot order was submitted.
The Rare Beauty founder confirmed the news on Instagram Stories on Friday (March 22), sharing a sneak peek of her and Henrie on the new set. “Guess what?!” she wrote “THEY GOT US FOR THE 1ST SEASON!”
According The Hollywood Reporter, production will begin next month in Los Angeles, and the show will premiere sometime this year on both Disney+ and the Disney Channel. Gomez and Henry, who played magical brothers Alex and Justin Russo in the original Wizardswill reprise their roles and serve as executive producers on the reboot.
Although the 'Love On' singer has been confirmed to appear in the first episode, it seems that Henrie's character will spend most of the series as a dad to sons Milo, played by Max Matenko, and Roman, who played by Alkaio Thiele. Along with Gomez and Henry, former head of Disney Branded Television Gary Marsh and director Andy Fickman are producing, as are pilot writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas. The project marks the latest in a series of reboots of nostalgic kids' shows, following Nickelodeon's iCarly, Zoey 101 and the now-scrap Lizzy McGuire modernize.
