A high school girls volleyball team invited Selena Gomez to one of their games over the weekend, and the “Love On” singer accepted the invitation. He stopped by Telluride High School in Telluride, Colo., on Saturday (August 31) to shed some light on the young athletes' day.
Gomez was in town promoting her movie Emilia Perez at the Telluride Film Festival. A handwritten sign on bright orange poster board, which was posted on a pole on Main Street, apparently caught her eye.
The sign addressed her: “Selena Gomez,” it read, “Please sing the National Anthem at one of [our] home games: Fri 6:00 pm, Sat 1:00 ~ THS Volleyball Team.”
It's unclear if Gomez actually performed the national anthem, but she did appear at the high school's gymnasium to mingle with students. Videos of her surprise appearance surfaced online — Gomez even shared a glimpse of her visit via her own Instagram account — but no clips of the pop star/actress singing in Telluride were found at the time of publication.
“They asked!!” Gomez captioned her Instagram post over the weekend about his presence at the volleyball game. “I couldn't help it, it's my first time in Telluride!”
The post shows her smiling broadly and, in a video shot at the school, explaining what made her come forward: “I saw the sign!”
The recap of Gomez's sporting event shows her meeting students, signing autographs and posing for a group photo with the team.
