A journalist says his life was turned upside down after he became embroiled in a social media mystery that arose out of the lyrical feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Reporter Denies Rumors About Drake Assault and Being OVO's Snitch
On Monday (May 13), reporter Christopher Alvarez wrote a personal essay on Brooklyn Daily Eagle, denying unfounded rumors that he was attacked by Drake and that he was the mastermind behind OVO. This after the 26-year-old Columbia Journalism graduate was thrown into the middle of a social media mystery after a strange video featuring elements of Kendrick Lamar's “Meet the Grahams” cover went viral on Friday (May 10).
The clip came from a user X, formerly known as Twitter EbonyPrince2k24 who posted a cryptic video featuring elements from the “Meet the Grahams” cover. In addition, the undercover poster also shared a screenshot of Alvarez and Drake in a New York hotel lobby where the rapper allegedly left the items on January 22, 2023.
In his essay, Alvarez, who lives with Fatal Dysplasia Type 2, a rare skeletal disorder that requires him to use a wheelchair, said his life was turned upside down after a photo of him and Drake went viral. Vicious rumors from fans suggested that Drizzy attacked Alvarez and that he was the OVO mole. Alvarez denies all charges.
“I've had the privilege of being with Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and other celebrities who have been very nice to me, but I don't understand where it all went haywire with the fans,” Alvarez writes in his essay.
“I can confirm that I was with Drake on the night of January 22, 2023,” he continues. “After his concert in New York with 21 Savage, I was invited to meet Drizzy at The Mark Hotel and we had a great time listening to new beats. I am not in a position to speak about his character outside of our meetings, but I can say that he was not violated in any way.”
Alvarez maintains that he is not following Drizzy and K-Dot's rap battle and is not a whistleblower for OVO.
“Lately, I've been getting a lot of spam phone calls, texts, emails and messages on social media saying that I'm the 'villain' in this beef, that I took 'bad money' from Drake, and that somehow I was in i'm drawing on it because i follow 'minor high school girls,' she writes 'first i know nothing about drake and lamar's beef because life is too short to hate and i don't follow it. Second, I am a hard-working journalist who holds elected officials and private entities accountable. I don't have a rapper on speed dial to be 'the mole' or 'the miller'.
