Hindsight is 20/20. Just ask Ray J, who recently spoke about the cultural impact of his infamous 2007 sex flick with Kim Kardashian.
In an interview with Club Shay Shay Posted on Wednesday, the singer said he believes “everything would have been different” if the tape had never been made. “We would all be different,” he surmised. “We would wear different clothes.”
“Probably more people would go to college and be educated and be successful,” he added. “There may not be OnlyFans and all the opportunities like that. Are we part of the cure, are we part of the disease? I do not know. All I know is I'm just trying to get it right.”
He also confessed that he is embarrassed by the tape now that he is a father. “The whole thing is weird,” he said. “With my kids, it's not okay.”
Ray J shares a young son and daughter with his estranged wife, Princess Love. The couple announced they were headed for divorce earlier this year, and in April, the “Sexy Can I” musician filed for joint custody of their children.
Ray J and Kim K were in a relationship for about three years starting in 2003. The release of their adult film is considered by many to be the catalyst for the Kardashian family's subsequent fame and billion dollar empire (except for Robert Kardashian who represents OJ Simpson in the football star murder trial 1995).
The SKIMs founder has since welcomed her own children with ex-husband Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. In 2022 Kardashians episode, the 'Donda' rapper claimed to have retrieved an unreleased cut of the tape from Ray J, a gesture that Kim said she was touched at the time.
However, Ray J chimed in shortly afterwards to say the delivery never took place. “This is all a lie smh – I can't let them do it anymore – so untrue,” she commented on a clip of the episode on Instagram.
