Playboi Carti continues to drop music on social media instead of streaming services.
On Friday (Nov. 22), the Atlanta rapper dropped “Play This” on his @opium_00pium Instagram account to accompany his recent appearance at ComplexCon in Las Vegas. The strategy is interesting as he put out a lot of songs this year, but most of them only live on either social media or YouTube. We asked producer Cardo – his frequent collaborator – about that strategy, and he thinks Carti might be testing the waters because he's always experimenting with new sounds and flows.
Produced by Roark Bailey and V-Ron, the song is a cool number that sounds like those chills he's been posting on Soundcloud. He raps to make women crazy, does various drugs, etc. Do you know? The usual, but somehow only someone like Carti can, so it's definitely interesting and a good warm-up for his upcoming and highly anticipated album I AM MUSIC.
He took to the comments of the song's IG post and told fans he shared it because it's one of his favorites, writing, “IT'S NOT OVER AT ALL SAD S— I WANTED TO HEAR BC I LOVE DIS SONG BUT DA SHIT DATS ON MY ALBUM OVRLY TRIMM .”
He mentioned the album and revealed that Ye is currently working with him at a recent club performance. “Shout out to my na Kanye, you know what I'm sayin',” she told the crowd as No. 1 hit “Carnival”. “Here he makes beats and sh-t. This album is gonna be crazy, I can't wait to show you all the n—s.”
