The impossible may soon become a reality. Oasis have released a vague teaser on social media today, following rumors of the Britpop band's beloved reunion online. The short clip uploaded to Oasis' official X and Instagram accounts shows a date, 08.27.24, and an announcement time of 8am. (no time zone mentioned). If they reunite, it will be the first time Oasis have played together in 15 years, following a relentless, stubborn feud between Liam and Noel Gallagher.
Yesterday (August 24) The Sunday Times claimed that, according to “industry mythmakers”, Oasis will reunite in 2025 for a 10-night headlining run at London's Wembley Stadium and additional gigs at Heaton Park in Manchester, the band's hometown. As fans reacted to these X rumours, Liam Gallagher began to respond with statements such as 'News to me', 'I don't know anything' and 'You're afraid of how you think I feel.' An X user then called Manchester's Heaton Park “an awful place” and Gallagher replied: “See you later mate.” During his Festival Reading on Friday night (August 23), he also dedicated his performance of 'Half the World Away' to 'Noel fucking Gallagher'.
The last line-up of Oasis consisted of Liam and Noel Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell when they disbanded in 2009. That same year, the two brothers had a heated argument that ultimately resulted in the cancellation of their scheduled appearance last moment at France's Rock en Seine festival just hours before Oasis were scheduled to play. “It is with some sadness and great relief…I have left Oasis tonight,” Noel Gallagher wrote in a statement on the band's website that evening. “People will write and say what they like, but I just couldn't keep working with Liam one more day.”
Rumors of an Oasis reunion have been circulating for years, but nothing has stuck. Noel Gallagher had previously said he would be open to returning to the band for £100 million (US$135 million), with Liam then claiming he would join an Oasis reunion for free.
This year marks 30 years since Oasis' debut album, Sure Maybe. They previously announced a special reissue of this LP to hit the milestone and it's due to arrive later this week on August 30th.
