This Barbie dropped a coffee table book! Barbie Star Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal teamed up with fashion photographer Craig McDean to release Barbie: The World Tour, a coffee table featuring Barbie-inspired looks from the film's press screening, including never-before-seen photos, released on Tuesday (March 19).
The Barbie Film press was held up by the writer's and actor's strikes last year, so Robbie and Mukamal set out to photograph the performances “exactly as they were to be edited,” according to the book's description.
“This book was an idea I had in my living room when I started dreaming up Margot's wardrobe for Barbie press tour in March 2023. I could never have imagined that just a few months later we would be in the studio shooting this project with our dream team,” Mukamal wrote on Instagram on Monday (January 22). The post goes on to thank Robbie for taking him on “this wild ride” and trusting in his vision.
“None of this would have been possible without your unwavering faith and trust in me and my vision for what I knew would be a life-changing project,” he wrote. “This book is a labor of love, dedicated to all Barbie lovers and fashion fans around the world. I hope you like it.”
In the book, fans will see the strapless trumpet-style Schiaparelli gown that Robbie wore to the Barbie movie premiere in Los Angeles. The vintage look was inspired by the Solo Spotlight Barbie.
Robbie's soft pink Vivienne Westwood dress (inspired by Enchanted Evening Barbie) from the London premiere will also feature in the book along with the vintage Chanel jacket she wore to the airport with matching pink Streamline luggage and other must-see photos.
The long awaited Barbie movie (free streaming on Max) became the highest-grossing movie of 2023 with $1.44 billion at the box office. The Academy Award-winning comedy follows Barbie (Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) on a life-changing journey into the real world.
Robbie and Mukamal donned some of Barbie's “most iconic outfits” to recreate looks for the press tour, including vintage pieces and custom creations from Giorgio Armani, Donatella Versace and other fashion designers.
Barbie: The World Tour was released this week, but it's not the only Barbie book coming out soon. Barbie: Her Inspiration, History and Legacyout on April 9, it's described as a “stunning tribute to pop culture's beloved icon.”
