Maggie Rogers took on 'Greedy' this week with her flawless cover of Tate McRae's hit single, which she performed on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.
Rogers put her signature folk spin on the pop hit, stripping down the verse before belting out the powerful chorus: “I'd like myself/ Baby, please believe me/ I'll put you through hell/ Just so you know me.”
The Canadian singer's smash hit single surpassed one billion plays on Spotify this week, becoming McRae's second song to do so, following her 2020 hit 'You Broke Me First'. It's also McRae's first top 10 on the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100, reaching a No. 7 high to date. It topped the Billboard Global 200, Billboard Global Excl. The US and Billboard Canadian Hot 100 charts.
“I don't think people really expected me to release a song like this. I didn't expect to release it. I was forever deciding which song I wanted to come back from a 10 month hiatus. I think also people didn't expect me to dance like I did in the music video and I think it was a bit of a shock,” he previously said. It's very exciting to start the album with that energy going into it.”
The milestone caps a big month for McRae, who won artist of the year and single of the year for “Greedy” at the 2024 Juno Awards, though she didn't attend. McRae has been nominated for nine awards in previous years, but this year marks her first Juno wins, following a breakout year in 2023 and the chart-topping success of her second album Think later. McRae kicks off her Think Later World Tour this month.
