Plans to transform the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid, Spain into a new music hub have met with an unexpected setback. After successful shows by artists such as Karol G, Taylor Swift and Luis Miguel, Real Madrid soccer club announced on Friday (September 13th) that it has decided to suspend scheduled concerts at its official venue until 2025, although no specific date was given .
“Real Madrid CF announces that it has decided to temporarily reschedule the calendar of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu. This decision is part of a series of measures the club has taken to ensure strict compliance with applicable municipal regulations during concerts,” the club said in a press release posted on its website and social media.
“Despite the soundproofing of the Santiago Bernabéu and the additional measures that have been taken, compliance with these regulations by the various promoters and organizers has been hampered by the challenge of meeting all the requirements,” the statement added. “Real Madrid will continue to work to ensure that during the concerts there are the exact conditions of sound production and transmission that allow concerts to be held in our stadium.”
Concerts affected include those of Dellafuente and Aitana, originally scheduled for November 15 and December 28-29, respectively, and Lola Índigo, scheduled for March 22, 2025, Real Madrid said, stating that all of them will be rescheduled. The Music Bank Festival, which was set to bring K-pop stars such as BOYNEXTDOOR, KISS OF LIFE and aespa on October 12, has been permanently cancelled.
No further details were given. Billboard Español attempted to contact Real Madrid CF's communications department but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
On their social media accounts, Aitana and Lola Índigo quickly reacted to the news. Aitana immediately announced new dates for her performances, which will now be June 27 and 28, 2025, while Índigo said she will announce new dates once she has them.
“We are sad but everything is postponed until 2025 and I am sure it will be incredible,” said a visibly affected Aitana in a video posted on her Instagram account. “It's a blow, but we'll come back stronger next year, he promised!” expressed Lola Indigo. Fans flooded their accounts with messages of support, though frustration at the wait was palpable.
FACUA, a Spanish non-governmental and non-profit organization that fights for consumer rights, posted the following message on X (formerly Twitter): “If you are one of those affected, you have the right to get your money back and you are reimbursed for the transportation and accommodation expenses you have incurred and are not refundable.”
With a capacity of up to 65,000, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium opened its doors to musical events last April with the Locos por la Música show, followed by a series of concerts from Taylor Swift's The Eras tour on May 29-30 and Karol G's four Mañana Será Bonito tour closing shows from July 20 to 23. Other important concerts at the venue were those of Duki (June 8), Manuel Carrasco (June 29) and Luis Miguel (July 6-7). The last show that played there was the group Aventura, on September 7-8.
Home to one of the biggest football teams in the Spanish capital, the Bernabéu Stadium is located in the Chamartín district, right on Paseo de la Castellana, a predominantly residential area. The noise level created by the emissions is not the only problem. Traffic and huge crowds have also been pointed out as a problem.
