In a statement, the band's Gareth David said: 'Secret Stars' 'Wait' was included on a mixtape a friend made for me when I was a teenager. For years, this tape dub was the only way I had to hear the song, and I played it over and over again. Not long after, I would buy the Death Cab You can play these songs with chords CD and I was blown away when I heard their version. I loved it, too, and it became a staple of the love letter mix CDs I would make for others. At some point, I found a junk MP3 on Soulseek, but I would keep going back to the tape until 2012, when someone uploaded the original version of the song to YouTube. A rip of the vinyl audio, played over a 7″ video spinning on a turntable. It feels kind of perfect that the original, 30 years after its release, still hasn't made it to streaming. I hope our version finds a place in the playlists you send to others to continue this cycle.”
Tom Bromley added, “I know it's indulgent, but I like strings All helland I love the sax, and I love all the intimate details that can get lost in a fuller arrangement, and stripping the songs down to these skeletal versions allows all those elements and the great musicians to come through. It wasn't part of the plan, but it became clear that the original vocal performances no longer made sense when presented that way, and neither did the guitars, so we quickly re-recorded them in one day in Cardiff, and now I love them. very.”
