Lil Nas X continues to talk about the slew of songs he's sitting around, so on Wednesday night (April 17) the MCs snuck out a track that's been floating around in snippet form for several years, the punchy “Lean On My Body.”
“I know I'm 10 years late, but I'll be touching my body in a few minutes,” he tweeted at dinnertime in a post that also included the original March 2022 detail, in which Montero rapped a verse from the song. while walking down a hallway.
“You know I love you, that's why I say it with love / But please tell your fans they gotta shut the fk / I really do st, some that never worry-” a-bill s–t/ Some build a house on the hill, s–t/ Money is gravy, they go crazy,” he raps, adding the offhand lines, “My big sis just had another baby, pop it out. lips/ My other nephew is sitting in class with a broken ankle/ He had to kick some ass to talk about his uncle.
Now, Lil Nas continues, he doesn't condone that kind of violent behavior, then quickly changes his mind, advising, “F–k it, yeah, I said it, I'm sorry thats–t/ Choke that ni–a out/ Go crown on that b–ch/ Walk ni–a like a dog, nephew has that b–ch”. The chorus leans into a gospel vibe with a heavenly Monteros chorus singing, “Strengthen my body, Lord (Amen, amen, amen)\ Bring blessings to my soul (Amen, amen, amen)/ And when the war is over ( Thank you )/ See the time has come to tell the world that the war has been won.”
Lil Nas has teased that his upcoming mixtape, Nazareth 2is just around the corner, but at the time of publication there was no specific release date for the sequel to the 2018 original. Last week he released the sensational “Right There,” which he first previewed in an Instagram Story back in February.
Lil Nas has been candid about the struggle to choose songs for the tape amid concerns about his fans' perceptions of his music. Earlier this year, he wrote on Instagram, “I've been collecting music for years, I hate my relationship with the fear of my songs not doing well and the perception. I wish I could just put out music and not give af.” That said, he has also thrown out a handful of quotes to fans to see what their reaction is in an apparent attempt to help his selection.
After “Lean” was posted, a fan named Mya commented, “those songs are literally hits, it's crazy he doesn't put them on all the streaming platforms…”, to which Lil Nas replied, “I just wanna enjoy the music for now. We've come to that!”
