Lil Durk is not following the rules in a California prison, despite being instructed to abide by certain regulations.
Lil Durk breaks the rules for making phone calls in prison
On Tuesday (Dec. 17), Law&Crime posted a YouTube video in which host Jesse Weber describes a judge's recent ruling that keeps Lil Durk behind bars ahead of his trial in January. Weber discussed a sealed exhibit filed by prosecutors that cited a pattern of criminal behavior and interference shown by Durk. The publication also revealed that the Chicago rapper was not following the rules at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles where he was extradited from Florida in November.
“Despite clear instructions not to engage in three-way calling, the defendant repeatedly abused the phone system at MDC to engage in such conduct,” Weber says from the briefing at 12:37 in the video below.
Prosecutors include information like this to show that if a defendant can't follow the rules and regulations in jail, how can he be expected to follow the rules if released on bail.
Last week, Durk was granted bail before his trial. However, this first attempt to secure bond in the murder-for-hire case was rejected. His legal team offered a bond package that included the 32-year-old rhymer's two homes in Georgia, worth a total of $2.3 million, plus $1 million in cash from Sony Music. Durk, who was granted bail in his 2019 case for criminal intent to commit murder – charges that were later dropped – was also included to show he is not a flight risk.
The brief also included information about a separate federal case in Chicago linking Durk to another murder-for-hire conspiracy. He is accused of offering money to people to kill those responsible for the 2021 murder of his brother Derrick “OTF DThang” Banks.
Lil Durk was arrested and charged with a murder-for-hire plot on October 24th. He is accused of trying to kill Quando Rondo with the help of several associates in 2022 in retaliation for Rondo's friend shooting and killing Durk's friend and OTF signee King Von in 2020. Durk has pleaded not guilty to federal charges charges of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit homicide for hire resulting in death, and use, transport and discharge of firearms and machine guns and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. His trial is scheduled for January 7, 2025.
