The upcoming ABC series Doctor Odyssey has some country music cred, judging by the show's new trailer. The teaser, which arrived on Tuesday (September 17), features both Kelsea Ballerini and Shania Twain in guest-starring roles, though details about those roles have not been revealed.
The trailer features a scene with Ballerini being controlled by Dr. Max, while another moment shows Twain dancing in the ship's ballroom with Don Johnson, whose role is also yet to be clarified.
Doctor Odyssey starring actor Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek, Doctor Death), who plays Dr. Max, a doctor on board a luxury cruise ship. He and the rest of the ship's medical team work to navigate medical crises. Other stars of the show include Johnson (Miami Vice, Nash Bridges), Phillipa Soo and Sean Teale.
Ballerini expressed excitement about her work in the series after the arrival of the teaser. “I've spent the past few weeks literally screaming crying and throwing up in the dramatic, mythical world of #doctorodyssey and crossing guest stars off the list,” Ballerini wrote on Instagram Tuesday, punctuating her caption with a heart emoji. “This incredible show is premiering [sic] Sept. 26 on @abc and streams on @hulu. (more soon about the episode and my obsession with the beautiful kind and brilliant cast)”.
The ballerina previously appeared in the TV series Nashville in 2016, but is known for her cinematic music videos, such as those from her project 2023 Rolling Up the Welcome Matand the music video for her song “If You Go Down (I'm Goin' Down Two).” Twain has appeared in television series including Monarch, Broad City and A man in full swing.
Doctor Odyssey is written and executive produced by Jon Robin Baitz, Joe Baken and Ryan Murphy, with Paris Barclay directing and executive producing.
Doctor Odyssey will premiere September 26 on ABC and will also stream on Hulu.
