Kelly Clarkson's cover of 'Wide Awake' made a big impression on Katy Perry.
The Kelly Clarkson Show The presenter performed Perry's 2012 hit, stripping it down to piano and vocals, for a segment of Kellyoke on Tuesday (March 19). She slowed down the track, letting her powerful voice shine throughout the ballad.
Fans were shocked by Clarkson's deal – including Perry herself.
“Okay, I can't sing it again,” Perry commented in a video posted by the official Kelly Clarkson Show Instagram account.
“I was in the dark/ I was falling hard/ With an open heart/ How did I read the stars so wrong?” Clarkson sings as the clip begins. “And now it's clear to me/ That everything you see/ Ain't always what it seems/ Yes, I've been dreaming for so long.”
“Wide Awake”, the latest single from Perry Teenage Dream album cycle, included in the deluxe reissue of the set in 2012, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained on the chart for a total of 26 weeks.
Clarkson previously covered Perry's “The One That Got Away” and “Roar” on her Emmy-winning daytime talk show.
Perry recently sat down together Advertising sign at Women in Music 2024 to have a quick chat about her upcoming performance at Rock in Rio and her love of dance music. On the red carpet she opened up about presenting the executive of the year award at the event, her love for Karol G and her decision to leave American Idol.
