Kansas City disc jockey Lisa Lopez-Galvan was killed in the shooting at the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade.
In a statement on its Facebook page, KKFI 90.1 FM confirmed Lopez-Galvan's death, noting that “the senseless act took a beautiful person from her family and this KC community.”
Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two, has co-hosted “Taste of Tejano” for KKFI since March 2022.
“It is with sincere sadness and extremely heavy and broken hearts that we inform our community that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Tejano flavor she lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs rally. Our hearts and prayers are with her family,” the statement said. “We urge anyone who feels they saw something to contact law enforcement at 816 234 5111.”
A follow-up message urged listeners, friends and family to “please keep our Lisa and the Lopez family in your prayers.”
A private mobile DJ for more than 15 years, the bilingual Lopez-Galvan played “for all kinds of crowds,” a KKFI statement said, brought “a wealth of musical knowledge” and was a lifelong music lover. “For Lisa, music is life and a source of happiness,” says her biography.
Earlier, officials said one person was killed and at least 21 others were injured in the incident west of Union Station, which happened near the end of a parade in Kansas City, Mo., celebrating the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory last weekend. Police have reportedly arrested three suspects.
The Chiefs' statement read: “We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the end of today's march and rally. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City.” All of the franchise's players, coaches, staff and their families are said to be “safe and accounted for.”
Multiple hospitals in the area treated the injured, including eight with “immediately” life-threatening injuries and seven with life-threatening injuries, according to the Kansas City Fire Department.
