Juvenile clarified his comments about Lil Wayne not headlining this season's Super Bowl Halftime Show.
He and Mannie Fresh appeared on Los Angeles area radio show Power 106's Coffee Bag Morning Show where they both addressed Kendrick Lamar who was chosen instead after being asked if they would perform if the Compton rapper extended an invitation. “Oh, we're there,” Juvie answered without hesitation. “Kendrick is one of the best performers we've ever seen. He's top notch, especially in hip-hop. In the world of hip-hop, and it's raising the bar. So it's something everyone wants to see, and if he calls me, I'm there. No problem.”
Mannie then interjected that social media has a habit of screwing things up. “The thing is, the Internet is always making something it's not,” he said. “Because people felt we took a side, because we said it would be cool if Wayne was in it. Of course we'll say it – this is from our team, but with all due respect, Kendrick is that dude. He's a good dude.”
Juvie added, “Never shade Kendrick one time because that's not how I live my life. I don't like tearing someone else down to put someone else up, do I? But I felt like Wayne campaigned for this spot, it came out months in advance, and I think if he's asking for it, at least consider him — call him or something.”
The New Orleans rapper went on to reiterate that his beef has always been with the NFL and never with Lamar or the person ultimately responsible for the pick in Jay-Z. “My feud was never with Jay-Z or Kendrick or anything like that,” he reiterated. “My fight was with the NFL and the other 11 Super Bowls they had in my town and they never gave us a chance to put anybody from the town. How come they come to our city and throw this big event and rent out all the buildings and not let people out of town… we don't see those benefits. My cause is completely different.”
In September, a day after Kendrick announced he was headlining Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Juvie took to social media to give his two cents. “So everybody wants me to talk about this situation at the Super Bowl,” he began, visibly upset while sitting in a car. “Look, I'm as angry about the situation as you are, but my hate is for the NFL — not really the people who shut down the halftime show. I'm angry at the people who hired the mutaf—as he shut down the half. I feel you should intervene. All told they had 11 Super Bowls in New Orleans, man. You still haven't put a hip-hop artist from New Orleans in the damn Super Bowl!”
He continued: “I feel like every time you come here, you should have somebody from our town in the sh-t. But this time it really hits when you don't have Lil Wayne on the show. I don't understand how everyone doesn't have Lil Wayne do the halftime show. Someone who has a lot of success and someone who really deserves it and someone who can bring out a lot of artists of all kinds. Think about it.”
The NO legend then directed his anger at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, saying, “So this goes to you Roger Goodell, you gotta do it right, man. You come to our city, suck up our culture and make all this money and put all this bread in your pocket and other people's pockets and hang us out to dry. It has to stop.”
He wasn't the only rapper upset. Nicki Minaj, Cam'ron, Mase, Master P and Boosie all felt like Weezy getting snubbed. Wayne even admitted to feeling heartbroken about the situation.
