Jay-Z (Sean Carter) was accused in a civil lawsuit filed Sunday of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 along with Sean “Diddy” Combs — claims he immediately called “attempted extortion” filed by a “fraud” lawyer. .
In a complaint filed in New York federal court, the unnamed Jane Doe alleges that Combs and Carter drugged and assaulted her during an after party following the MTV Video Music Awards. The case came as an updated version of an earlier lawsuit previously named only Combs.
The complaints were filed by Tony BuzzbeeTexas attorney who has filed a slew of lawsuits against Combs in recent months and has warned that he has dozens of other alleged victims. Earlier this month, Buzbee was sued for extortion by an unnamed celebrity who claimed he threatened to release “wildly false outrageous allegations” linked to Diddy if the unnamed bigwig didn't pay up.
In a statement in response Sunday afternoon, Carter strongly denied the allegations and called the lawsuit an “extortion attempt” aimed at securing a settlement. He called Buzbee a “fraudster,” a “deplorable human being” and an “ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”
“You have made a terrible error of judgment in thinking that all 'celebrities' are the same,” Carter said. “I'm not from your world. I'm a young man who made it through the Brooklyn project. We don't play those kinds of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We are protecting the children, you seem to be exploiting people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists … will believe the idiotic allegations you have leveled against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harming children, would be laughable.'
“I can't wait to show you how different I am,” Carter concluded.
Combs has faced a flood of abuse allegations over the past year, beginning with civil lawsuits and followed by a federal indictment in September in which prosecutors allege he ran an extensive criminal enterprise for years aimed at satisfying his need for “sexual gratification.”
Weeks after the indictment, Buzbee joined the controversy by holding a news conference in which he claimed to represent 120 people who had been victimized by Combs and threatened a flood of lawsuits. He has since filed more than a dozen such lawsuits, all on behalf of anonymous Doe plaintiffs.
In the new case, Buzbee calls Jay-Z Combs' “longtime friend and collaborator.” She claims that after the alleged victim was led to the after-party and made to sign a non-disclosure agreement, she was given a drink that made her feel “dumb” and “relaxed”. When she went into a bedroom to lie down, Buzbee claims she was attacked by the two stars.
“Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor,” the lawsuit states. “Several others were present at the after-party but did nothing to stop the attack.”
In his response, Jay-Z asked why the allegations, which were “so heinous” had not been filed as a criminal case: “Anyone who would commit a crime like that against a minor should be locked up, don't you agree?” He also vowed never to settle with Buzbee, saying he would “expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public way.”
“My only heartache is for my family,” Carter said. “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at an age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these allegations and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn another loss of innocence.”
