Earlier today, the deputy communications director for former President Donald J. Trump posted a video on X featuring the 2003 White Stripes Elephant song “Seven Nation Army”. The assistant, Margo Martin, has since deleted the post, but that hasn't stopped Jack White from criticizing Martin and her boss. “Oh… Don't even think about using my music you fascists,” White wrote on Instagram. “The lawsuit comes from my lawyers for that.”
White went on to criticize the Republican presidential candidate and a member of his campaign staff who, according to the Army public affairs office, “pushed” an Arlington National Cemetery employee during a wreath-laying ceremony earlier this week. “And while I'm here, screw you DonOLD for insulting our nation's veterans in Arlington, you scum,” White wrote. “You should immediately vote every military family out of this if ANYTHING makes sense anymore.”
White is a longtime Trump critic who has sold T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Icky Trump” and has previously condemned the use of “Seven Nation Army” in pro-Trump media. He has also criticized Elon Musk for allowing Trump to return to X and called out celebrities who have been linked to the former president.
As the presidential election nears, musicians are getting more outspoken against Donald Trump, particularly over his music choices. Among the biggest names who have fallen out with the Republican are Celine Dion, Beyoncé, the Foo Fighters and ABBA.
