J. Cole Prepares Nostalgia For Fans Before 2024 Dreamville Boss Followed The Come Up's arrival DSP with the release of his sanctuary Warming up mixtape on streaming services for the first time on Friday (November 22).
Warming up played an integral role in Cole's rise as he caught the attention of Jay-Z and earned a deal with Roc Nation. The mixtape was originally released in June 2009 and the streaming version features 22 tracks in total.
Standouts from the project include the Kanye West-produced “Just to Get By,” “Dreams,” and “Lights Please,” which gathered enough momentum to even land on Jermaine's Cole World: The Sideline Story debut album in 2011.
“Warming up out now everywhere,” Cole Manager Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad wrote to X. “It's taken us 15 years, but I'm so glad we can do this. This project is very special to me, it really put Cole in the game and we haven't looked back since. Forever Grateful for this project, legit changed n—-z lives forever.”
The arrival of The Warm Up coincides with the release of Cole's third episode Inevitable audio series, which finds him reminiscing about his rise to fame. This episode specifically focuses on the release of the tape after his deal with Hov is revealed.
Fans can purchase access to the entire series for $10 with two-hour episodes released every few days to a week. The season finale will be covered 2014 Forest Hills Drive.
“If you've bothered me at any point so far in my journey, I hope this gives you even more perspective and fills in a lot of gaps,” Cole wrote when he announced the series. “If you have your own dream in life that you hope to achieve, in any field, I hope this will fuel your spirit, giving you the confidence to believe in that dream and the encouragement to push through the tough times. Do it even when you might be afraid.”
