Britney Spears is the latest star to chronicle her life through a biopic.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures Acquires Rights to Pop Princess' Best-Selling Memoir The Woman in Me. The book chronicles Spears' rise to fame, her relationship with fellow star Justin Timberlake – which included her getting pregnant and having an abortion during their time together – and her life under highly restrictive 13-year maintenance.
The Woman in Me quickly became a best seller. The day after its arrival in October, Spears declared that the book was “the best-selling celebrity memoir in history” on its first day on the shelves.
Bad Director Jon M. Chu and Marc Platt are reportedly leading the film's development. Spears also took to X earlier this month to reveal that she's working on a “secret project” with Platt. “Excited to share with my fans that I'm working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. Always made my favorite movies…stay tuned,” she wrote.
In anticipation of the potential biopic, we've compiled a list of our dream cast to portray key people in Spears' life, from the pop princess herself, family and former industry peers, journalists and more. See below.
-
Britney Spears was played by Sydney Sweeney
She is so lucky! He's a star! Aside from their obvious physical resemblance, Sweeney knows that fighting how someone is portrayed in the media can be completely different than who they really are. She would be the perfect candidate to portray Britney through the lens of empathy and kindness, which is what the pop star calls for.
-
Jamie Lynn Spears is played by Millie Bobby Brown
While Millie Bobby Brown has expressed that playing Britney in a biopic would be her dream role, she has the acting chops to take on Jamie Lynn and bring depth to the sisters' tumultuous relationship.
-
Lynne Spears is played by Sandra Bullock
Similar to Brown, Bullock is a professional actor. The star can easily channel the nuances of Spears' relationship with her mother — and probably win an Oscar for it.
-
Jamie Spears is played by Alec Baldwin
As much as this is unfortunate casting for any actor, you can't deny the resemblance between Baldwin and Spears' estranged father.
-
Justin Timberlake is played by Gavin Casaleggio
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” star already has JT's signature curls. Taking on the difficult experiences with Timberlake that Spears highlights in her book, she will transform Casalegno from an up-and-coming actor to a fully-fledged movie star.
-
Christina Aguilera is played by Dove Cameron
Dove Cameron is no stranger to the Disney machine and knows the struggle of being compared to other pop stars. Her musical ability combined with her acting talent make her the perfect candidate to play Xtina.
-
Max Martin played by Bradley Cooper
Let Bradley Cooper grow out his hair and he looks a lot like the mega producer who helped Britney become the pop icon she is by working on '…Baby One More Time'.
-
Madonna is played by Christina Aguilera
Okay, we know Aguilera is a character in the movie. However, instead of playing herself, it would be interesting to see Xtina take on a different relationship with Spears, portraying her mentor and collaborator, Madonna. He certainly has the music chops for it!
-
Elton John was played by Michael Caine
Michael Caine is great in an uplifting role and it would be heartwarming to see him play Elton John, who collaborated with Britney on her first post-conservative single, 'Hold Me Closer'.
-
Diane Sawyer is played by Katherine Heigl
Diane Sawyer's infamous interview with Britney Spears left the pop star in tears at media scrutiny. Katherine Heigl never shies away from a difficult role and will perfectly capture the journalist's conversation with Spears.
-
Oprah Winfrey plays Queen Latifah
“I appreciated it when Oprah told me on her show that my sexuality was nobody else's business,” Spears wrote in her book. “And when it came time for virginity, 'You don't need a global announcement if you change your mind.'
Queen Latifah is a fierce supporter of women in entertainment, so she would be a perfect fit for Oprah's empowering interview with Spears.
-
Paris Hilton played by Elle Fanning
For Britney's supportive friend Paris Hilton, Elle Fanning would be a great choice for the role of best friend. Plus, she'd look incredible in Hilton's Y2K style.
-
Sam Asghari was played by Shervin Alenabi
Also Iranian star Shervin Allenabi looks a lot like Spears' ex-husband, and the beloved actor will have no problem portraying Asghari and Spears' relationship.
-
Colin Farrell is played by Jacob Elordi
Spears had a brief fling with Pharrell in the early 2000s, which would be a fun opportunity to reunite his “Euphoria” co-stars Sweeney and Elordi on the big screen.
-
Ginuwine as himself
Let's be real, no one can play Ginuwine better than Ginuwine himself. Watching him reenact the moment in Spears' book where Justin Timberlake looked at the 'Pony' singer and said, “Oh yeah, fo' shiz, fo' shiz. Ginuwine, what's up, my friend?” warrants an Oscar all by itself.
