In a press release, Alex Kapranos said of the song, “It's about having a bold response when you feel like the fabric of existence is crumbling around you. Bold, on the contrary. Looking over the edge into the eternity of non-existence and saying Ai! Fuck it! Not today thanks!”
Of the album, he added, “Making this record was one of the most affirming experiences I've had, but it's called The Human Fear. Fear reminds you that you are alive. I think we are all addicted in some way to the buzz it can give us. How we react to it shows how human we are. So here are a bunch of songs that seek the thrill of being human through fears. Not that you'd necessarily notice it on first listen.”
The Human Fearreleased through Domino, is the first Franz Ferdinand album to feature drummer Audrey Tait and guitarist Dino Bardot. Songwriter Julian Corrie collaborated with Caprano and Bob Hardy on songwriting duties. The new lineup will tour Europe early next year.
