Rhino has announced a live album from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The new release, Live at the Fillmore East, 1969captures the band's performance at New York's Fillmore East. The performance took place on Saturday 20 September 1969 and a multi-track recording was recently discovered. Stephen Stills and Neil Young, working with John Hanlon at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, assembled and mixed the original eight-track concert recordings into the new album. Live at the Fillmore East, 1969 contains an acoustic portion—featuring renditions of Helplessly Hoping, The Beatles' “Blackbird,” Buffalo Springfield's “On the Way Home” and “Broken Arrow,” Déjà Vu's “4 + 20” and more—and a smaller electric portion with “Sea of Madness”, “Down by the River” and many more.
In a statement, Graham Nash said: “Listening to the music again after all these years, I can tell how much we loved each other and loved the music we made. We were four people having fun with the different sounds we made, singing quietly together on one side, and then rocking out for the rest of the concert.”
Live at the Fillmore East, 1969 will be released on October 25th. It marks the band's first archival release since David Crosby died in January 2023 aged 81.
