Representation matters, and Chrissy Teigen saw it firsthand when her eight-year-old daughter, Luna, met Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris at the White House this summer.
“Still glowing from the moment my Luna (in her adorable mini dress) met VP Harris at the White House last June,” Teigen wrote in an Instagram photo on Tuesday (August 27), which shows the Luna. rocking a pink tweed jacket and skirt set as she smiles at Harris, who is facing away from the camera. “It's a powerful reminder of what can happen when young girls can see themselves in the person who holds the highest office in the land. And my favorite part? Tearing up knowing that this will be a photo that Luna will look back on forever.”
Both Luna and Harris are half Asian, half Black. Harris's mother is Indian and her father is Jamaican. Teigen is half Taiwanese and half Norwegian, while her husband and Luna's father, John Legend, is African American.
Teigen went on to say that watching Harris at the Democratic National Convention last week was “inspiring,” adding, “From maternal and reproductive rights, to the economy (which she accurately highlights as a women's issue), to gun violence legislation and affordable education, her dedication and vision gives me so much HOPE for the future.”
THE Longing The writer concluded, “Kamala isn't just the kind of role model I want for Luna, she's also exactly the leader we all need right now. Now let's do SOMETHING!”
