Bon Jovi are celebrating four decades of rock with the upcoming release of their 16th album. Forever. The Jersey giants announced the news on Thursday morning (March 14), along with the release of the LP's first single, the upbeat rock-bop “Legendary.”
“This record is a return to joy. From the writing, through the recording process, this is turn up the volume, feel good Bon Jovi,” lead singer Jon Bon Jovi said in a statement about the album, which is due for release on June 7. The CGI video for “Legendary” finds the band swaying in a lush digital field as frontman Bon Jovi sings, “Who are you and who am I/ To think we could ever fly/ It's not even worth trying/ Work you get paid and you just get by,” before launching into the uplifting chorus, “I throw my hands up in the sky/ I don't need no more to tell me I'm alive/ I got what I want/ Cause I got what I need/ I got a handful of friends/ That you will stand for me/ Where I am is where I want to be'.
The catchy chorus contains many allusions to classic rock songs such as Neil Diamond's “Sweet Caroline” and Van Morrison's “Brown Eyed Girl”. The band will be the subject of upcoming four-part Hulu documentaries Thanks, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Storywhich will debut on the streamer on April 26.
