As Advertising sign is preparing to release its physical version Billboard Koreaa new alliance with NAVER Pay that will unlock opportunities for its readers and the wider K-pop space.
South Korea-based mobile payment service NAVER Pay has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Advertising sign and Billboard Koreawith a view to the first print edition in the middle of the year.
As previously mentioned, Billboard Korea Volume 1 is scheduled to launch in June, which will boost 100 K-pop stars selected from Advertising sign.
The objective of the MoU is to promote various collaborative efforts that will combine simple payment services with the entertainment services that Billboard Korea will provide, it said in a statement, with NAVER Pay providing “a secure and simple” facility for music, broadcasts and performances.
Through the alliance, the brands will help create “a fair and transparent performance booking culture” and, in the long term, a unified approach to the distribution of K-pop content through of Billboard global platform.
“We are happy to be able to work together Billboard Korea as they enter the Korean market,” comments NAVER Pay CEO Park Sang-jin, adding, “going forward, we will actively seek to find ways to create synergy between Advertising sign and Korea Billboard various entertainment services and NAVER Pay.”
Mike Van, its president Advertising signand Yuna Kim, its CEO and publisher Billboard Koreanoted, “Through our partnership with NAVER Pay, we will be able to provide a variety of innovative services unique Advertising sign in the Korean music market”.
As Billboard Korea is off the presses, the K-pop genre is reaching new heights. South Korean acts accounted for five of the top 10 albums on the 2023 IFPI Global Album Chart, including the number one spot for SEVENTEEN FML, representing the best all-world chart performance for the genre. Indeed, an unprecedented 19 of the chart's top 20 titles were K-pop.
And separately, in the recently released IFPI Global Recording Artist Chart, which ranks the most popular artists on the planet, based on sales and streams, four K-pop songs appeared in the top 10 – representing a record year for Korean music in global scale.
Billboard Korea adds to the list of international editions of the publication, including Billboard Japan, Billboard Arabia, Billboard Español, Billboard Brasil and others.
