RCA Records has signed BERWYN in the US as the Trinidad-born, London-raised rapper looks to set foot in America with his first 12-track studio effort. WHO AM I.
“[It’s] amazing to have the support of a company like RCA, who have an incredible history of working with some of the biggest artists in black music like SZA, Wizkid and D'Angelo,” says BERWYN. Advertising signexclusively.
RCA is equally excited to add more depth to their loaded roster by signing BERWYN.
“We are thrilled to welcome BERWYN to the RCA Records family,” he says John FleckensteinCOO of RCA Records. “He is a unique talent with an incredible ability to tell a story through music. We are proud to play a role in his journey.”
Although RCA will be BERWYN's US label, it remains contracted to fellow Sony imprint Columbia UK internationally.
As for WHO I AM, BERWYN tackles a barrage of topics ranging from racial identity (“I'M BLACK” to immigration (“DEAR IMMIGRATION”). BERWYN's no-nonsense approach as an MC has served as his calling card, as he previously received the Mercury Prize nomination.
“Now I know exactly what to say in front of the microphone… If there's a story that needs to be told, and I can tell it well, that's my service. My job is to produce light and positivity. It is simple. I don't get anything in the room other than that energy that people tend to enjoy,” he said Rolling Stone UK earlier this week.
