“Bee”

In Philly, DC and Chicago right now, all the rappers are in competition to see who can best capture the Doomsday vibes of the Book of Revelation. The winner might be Lil Durk protégé Chuckyy, a new lightning rod from the Chicago drill with a voice that sounds like he's banging on nose plugs. On “Bumblebee,” a single from his recent EP Rub all the way throughhis sloppy, rushed delivery makes it seem like he's in a life-or-death situation. Combine that with a biblical-sounding spin on a 42 Dugg-core Michigan beat and it's almost like standing in the eye of a hurricane. And though Chuckyy has out-of-town influences, “Bumblebee” is very much in the Chicago drill tradition, where chilling mood tracks are nothing new. His trick is an insane, anxiety-inducing flow that feels like he's inside a recording booth that's going to be filled to the ceiling with water (like the lab in Deep Blue Sea) if he doesn't finish his verse in less than two minutes.
