50 Cent shares his take on the Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne 2025 Super Bowl performance feud.
50 Cent discusses Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne
On Friday (September 13), 50 Cent sat down for an interview with CBS' The Discussion. He said Kendrick Lamar fully deserves to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.
“I mean, it was a choice,” admitted 50. “I think Kendrick deserves, as a solo artist right now, he's the guy. But having the game in New Orleans, having the game played in New Orleans, I can I understand why they took Wayne – I think the last show was with me, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Kendrick was there then and Mary J. Blige.”
Afterwards, co-host Sheryl Underwood said K-Dot could still bring out Juvenile and other New Orleans guests to cater to the fans, but 50 said Kendrick should bring out the people he's worked with first and lady.
“He should bring up the people he's been on big records with,” 50 continued, before going on to share his thoughts on Kendrick's beef with Drake as a whole.
“I think it's good for the culture,” the G-Unit frontman concluded. “Both Drake and Kendrick produced quality music faster because they had to compete with each other. This competitive nature made them work and have answers. Hip-hop is not a genre where you can just make a song and sit down. a song and be ready to do a song again immediately'.
After news spread about Kendrick Lamar being chosen to perform at Super Bowl LIX, Lil Wayne finally addressed the drama on Instagram and admitted he was hurt.
“[Not being picked] it hurt,” Weezy said. “It hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a disappointment. I just automatically mentally put myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.”
50 Cent is just the latest rapper to chime in on the controversy. Many rappers have expressed their dismay that Wayne was not chosen to perform in his hometown, with some blaming Jay-Z. What made it worse was that Lil Wayne has expressed his desire to play in the big game multiple times.
